I get asked all of the time how to use adaptogens, and specifically, how I like to use my elixir blends. I thought it would be fun to share a day on my plate so you guys can see what a nutritionist + adaptogen obsessed human consumes on the daily. Before we dive into it, I want to preface this post by saying that I stand behind everyone having their unique diet. What I am about to share is just one day. My diet shifts regularly and I could never use a single label to define the way I eat. I'm a true flexetarian and that's it.
Follow people who inspire you with their choices, but be aware of those who have an extreme or "one-way" tone to the content that they're sharing. Know that we're here to be free to shift and evolve. Drop the pressure around being perfect and know that your relationship with food is an ongoing + ever evolving journey. Stay curious and don't be too hard on yourself. There's always the next meal to refine.
Okay, now that I've shared that, let's talk about what you'll find on my plate for breakfast, lunch dinner + snacks, these days.
Room temp water with lemon
Something I still see getting overlooked is hydration. It's so important to hydrate upon waking. It allows your organs to recalibrate and gently cleanses you from the night before.
7:45 AM (post meditation)
Detox + Synergy is my favorite morning elixir to wake up with. It is an adaptogenic blend of turmeric, maca, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, black pepper, himalayan salt and vanilla. It's amazing first thing is the morning because it purifies what's irrelevant and nourishes what is. Complete alchemy.
I make mine with 10 oz. warm almond milk, 1 tsp. detox + synergy & 1 tsp. ghee. Blend together in a blender and you have a frothy + delish elixir.
1 slice of paleo or sprouted grain toast, layered with kite hill greek almond milk yogurt, banana slices, bee pollen & sprinkled with lunar + bliss elixir blend. This changes regularly, but I'm currently obsessed with this combo.
chickpea + vegetable curry stew & a kale salad with avocado
I like to get in lots of nutrient dense veggies at lunch, paired with some protein & healthy fat of course
protein pick me up
I love blending my favorite pea protein with some almond milk, frozen cauliflower, coconut butter, cinnamon & stevia for a sweet, yet blood sugar balancing snack
baked salmon, sliced avocado & roasted brussels + a wine glass filled with GTS kombucha, Synergy flavor (duh)
I like to get a quality serving of protein in at dinner to support healthy blood sugar and a restful nights sleep. If you struggle with sleep, incorporating a good protein at dinner can be a game changer.
This elixir is intended to soothe the body and calm the nervous system. Lunar + Bliss is an adaptogenic blend of organic rose, shatavari, ashwagandha, cinnamon, cardamom, pink salt & vanilla. It's the perfect night cap to encourage a restful nights sleep. I drink it religiously, especially after a day of running around accomplishing things for my business. I make mine with 5 oz hot water, 5 oz. hot almond milk, 1 tsp. lunar + bliss, 1 tsp. almond butter or coconut oil & a little stevia.
I hope this post inspires you to incorporate adaptogens + elixirs into your day to day life. I promise when you do, you'll begin to see their profound effects. Also, I want to hear from you? What ways do you use your By Erika Elizabeth elixir blends. Let me know! I would love to feature your recipes on the blog.
